Gulu Disabled Persons Organisation, known as GDPU was founded in the year 1992 after persons with disabilities came together to form an association that aims to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities in greater Gulu that is to say (Gulu, Nwoya, Omoro, and Amuru) GDPU is a full member of NUDIPU we champion inclusion and opportunity, breaking barriers to create a brighter future for persons with disabilities in Gulu, Uganda.

Vocational Skills Training for Youth with Disabilities.

This is a continuous program implemented by GDPO aimed at sustaining the great work done by the Vplus project, GDPO has trained over 560 youth with disabilities across Northern Uganda with over 300 directly employed in the different sectors, we offer skills trainings in the following areas.
– Knitting Sweater
-Electronic Repair
-Motorcycle Repair
-Hairdressing and Salon.
-Decoration and Design
-Tailoring

Vplus plus project

APRIL 30, 2025

Vplusplus supported over 80 youth with disabilities from the earlier Vplus skills training programme. It gave them:

  • Training in financial literacy,
  • Business development skills,
  • Follow up support,
  • linkages to opportunities,
  • guidance and counseling,
  • safeguarding support,
  • tailor made trainings
  • monthly reflection meetings with youth

The Vplusplus programme worked, our beneficiaries are succeeding in their businesses and finding their rightful place in their communities.  

Wheelchair Project

Dec 14, 2026

Through our supportive donor ABSF grants we have been able to distribute wheelchairs to 60 school going children within Northern Uganda, provided white cane to 20 persons with visual impairment and 80 crutches to women and girls with disabilities in Acholi Sub region.

The current grant support is to establish the biggest wheelchair workshop in Northern Uganda, GDPO has already manufactured 5 model wheelchair which are already being tested and used.

Viva la visa project

June 07, 2025

Through funding support from Viva La visa UK (Andy Corrigan) who extended his support to enhance the capacity of youth with disabilities in Music, through the program over 60 songs have been released and 12 youth have become better in music through the tailored six and one year trainings offered at the center.

A complete Music Studio was established at GDPO center where youth with disabilities are directly supported by their peers.
